Spaghetti code for dinner
The site in question. It’s been a while since I touched it so I decided to give it a much needed update.
- Cleaned up the backend. (Which was a pain in the ass, by the way).
- Added a guestbook
- Added a status.cafe widget featuring a drooling cat.
- Added a tumblr feed that shows posts from specific tags in the blog section.
Regarding the last item, I was initially going to add a gallery that acts as an archive for my art, but I thought that this roundabout way of displaying it via RSS2JSON would save me some storage since as of now, I am on the free plan in neocities. It did save me money, but I ended up paying with my time and sanity.
And before you ask me how I was able to pull the tumblr feed off, I’m going to be transparent and say that that part was vibe coded. I know— Boo, throw tomatoes at me for letting a computer do the work.
Rest assured, though, the rest of the code besides the feed was done by hand.
I am trying to learn what each line does, however. It’s a very backwards way of learning, but I do find that I’m starting to gain an understanding of it since JavaScript has a similar syntax to Java. (I happened to learn the latter during college, thank god).
Anyways, for what I might add next:
- Featured shitpost or comic on a square canvas that changes every time you refresh the page.
- Actual gallery of art whose files I’d have to store in somewhere like file garden? It’s not gonna be my main archive site, more of a portfolio.
- Profiles for each of my characters? We’ll see.
